Adding a Little Christmas to the Blog

Posted in Events by SEO Ottawa on the December 10th, 2006

Hopefully not at risk of offending anyone, we at DriveTraffic have decided to add a little Christmas to our blog by changing the theme. If you are reading the blog via RSS feeds you may want to pop over to the actual blog site and have a peek :-)

Due to some tight client deadlines and the closing of the office for an extended holiday in another week, we are trying to put some things in place for you to read while we are away - such as favourite posts from the past year and recent del.icio.us entries.

Hopefully it all goes smoothly and we’ll have lots of fresh info for you in the New Year!

Follow-up to BarCamp Ottawa2 - Title Tags

Posted in SEO by SEO Ottawa on the December 4th, 2006

On Saturday I made a presentation for BarCamp Ottawa2 called “Designing Search Engine Friendly Websites” and a great conversation ensued about title tags and whether your brand should appear at the front of the title tag or at the end of the tag.

Turns out the same conversation is going on over at SEOmoz Blog - although they have a very clever name for their discussion:  Title Tag Showdown!

The overall winning thought in that discussion is that if you are a small company your brand is not likely your most important or influential variable when your title appears on the SERPs.  If you are a larger company where brand is paramount, put your brand at the front of your title on your home page and at the end of your titles for interior pages.

One last thought is that if your brand is a long phrase, keep it to the end of your page titles.

Very interesting indeed!  Now how many of you have the same title on every page of your website?  Definitely a no-no!
